Swampscott’s older homes (especially those near the harbor or on higher elevations) demand a chimney sweep with real credentials—not just a handshake. Here’s what ‘licensed & insured’ actually means, and how to check before booking. Spoiler: A free estimate won’t cut it. Nave J. Chimney LLC’s team starts with state certifications, up-to-date insurance, and a no-pressure inspection. Ready to cut through the noise? We’ll show you the red flags—and how to avoid them.
Myth: ‘Licensed’ Just Means They Showed Up in a Truck
Here’s the Swampscott-specific catch: Massachusetts doesn’t issue ‘chimney sweep licenses’ like a driver’s permit. Instead, look for CSIA certification (the gold standard) or state-registered masonry contractors—especially if your home has a brick chimney (common in Swampscott’s historic neighborhoods). Our crew holds both, plus we’re bonded for up to $50K in case of damage. Pro tip: Ask for their insurance certificate before they start work. If they hesitate, walk away. Need a second opinion? What Swampscott Homeowners Get Wrong About Insurance (And Why It Matters)
‘Insured’ isn’t just a checkbox—it’s your safety net. Here’s what most Swampscott homeowners miss: General liability insurance covers accidents (like a ladder slipping onto your roof), but workers’ comp protects you if an unlicensed helper gets hurt on your property. Nave J. Chimney LLC carries both, plus we’re listed with the North Shore Builders Exchange for extra accountability. Red flag: If a sweeper says ‘I’m covered,’ but won’t show you a current policy, assume they’re not. Still unsure? See our service areas—we’ve got Swampscott covered (and nearby towns like Lynn and Marblehead).
